Teaching Sharks (and Eels) to Attack Invasive Lionfish

Follow by Email
If sharks and eels are taught to eat invasive lionfish, they can help lower lionfish population in the Caribbean. Lionfish are quickly eating and replacing native species of fish in the Caribbean. Their population in the Caribbean has exploded in recent years. This video shows sharks eating lionfish. HI I'm a perso : Hopefully next time we teach them to eat politicians

TOUGH MAN RANDY SAVAGE : That probably the shark equivalent to eating a burrito from Chipotle, probably had the shits for days.

June Derick Reyes : I don't get it. Why won't they just build a wall?

Nathan Frey : No lionfish were harmed in the making of this video.

beat beast : *Lionfish have no predators, they said.*

Roy Baartscheer : For the people whom wonder the same thing as I did: "Lionfish are not poisonous, they are venomous. Lionfish have venom, which is transferred to the bloodstream of it’s victim through its spines. Sharks are able to eat lionfish because the flesh of the lionfish is not poisonous. I don’t know why consuming the venomous spines do not bother sharks, but I’ve personally seen several nurse sharks eat speared lionsifh (lionfish killed because they are invasive species by native divers) with no visible problems." https://www.quora.com/Can-sharks-eat-lionfish-Are-the-sharks-immune-to-their-venom

Joseph Burnside : I have only witnessed 1 episode where a shark attacked and ate a lionfish without the lionfish being wounded first. We were in St. Croix hunting lionfish with spearguns. The reef sharks show up as soon as divers hit the water. Witnessed shark attack lionfish under a small ridge. The shark attacked and killed the lionfish with much ferocity. None of the other divers had ever witnessed an event like this before. We were all in shock....

Richard Lew : I'm just waiting for PETA to criticize the eradication of harmful invasive species

¿? : Poor sharko getting dupped into noming a spicy boi

P3RK4N : Do you even play hungry shark world?

Zach M : Make the sea great again!

DroppedMaFknNoodles : Why did you really badly edit fake teeth into the shark in the thumbnail😂😂

Jxmmy2 Carbonel : Lion fish: natural predators? No Humans: hold my beer...

Camikazie : bro i think that u are not allowed to take a lionfish life just to feed the sharks :( !

Nelio Anderson : No natural predators? Problem solved. Brilliant

GoddardsFitness : This is fucking awesome work!

Fuzzy Was : wonder if sharks would like to eat Democrats..that would be a win win!

Russ G : All that's happening here is that sharks are taking advantage of dead meat. No way those sharks are going to find those stinkin' lionfish hiding among the rocks an corals and actively hunt them. Most sharks - all the big ones - hunt in the water column. Lionfish stay OUT of that area.

Madison Atteberry : This might actually work. The last time I went diving in the open, we were around a coral reef and saw several lionfish when out from under one of the reef rocks (I think a black tip) and started to tear apart the lionfish. We couldn't figure it out. This might be the reason, though what is shown a different species of shark others could be teaching different shark species the same. Groupers have already been eating lionfish for a while now, yes, this could possible work.

initman01 : How do you know those lionfish are not poisoning the sharks or eels when they eat the lionfish?

Triston Ong : Today my teacher got onto the topic of Lionfish, and mentioned: “They are so poisonous and feared that they have virtually no natural predators.” I laughed at him, took out my phone and showed him this video.

Luke Raagas : Man, those lionfish are some great actors it feels like they are being eaten for real....... oh wait

animation station : Sharks are crusaders and lion fish are heathens They will secure us the promised land, the Caribbean

J Yoneda : Great thumbnail love the use of MSpaint for the teeth

Frank Collias : Seems like they are teaching sharks to look for divers with lion fish instead of teaching them to eat Lion fishes

Nirossen : Came here to point out the poorly done Ms paint teeth in the thumbnail

Parker : You can see an immediate increase in the shark's speed the moment the lionfish gets speared. There ability to detect that kind of thing is incredible!

Jason Kroman : Is it just me or is seeing the fish being stabbed really satisfying....

اسد فارسي : Charity charity for predatory fish😂

Nico_Sama : Sharks sure can move fast if they want to, scary.

MarbRed Fred : That thumbnail has the greatest photoshop skills ever seen in all of history

metifu : You are one crazy son of a Bbbbbbbbbbbbb!! like always buddy your stuff is amazing. Umberto Polanco

Triston Ong : I would love to swim with sharks one day. Great whites and Tiger sharks in particular. There are so many species out there I would love to swim beside though...

Wana2dmax Max : Please keep doing this for the sake of our oceans!

adolf fuhrer : And if nature played her *TRUMP* CARD there would be a *WALL* around these *IMMIGRANTS* !!

stunnasam21 : Those photoshop skills in the thumbnail though 👍......🙄

SkyStrikeGames #Yolo : We need an annual international lion fish killing event. These things are destroying these beautiful reefs.

hersety : Fucking bigot #LionfishWelcome

[PUPPY] S H E P H E R D : Pacific Fish In Atlantic Bodies of Water

JF Motta : Nice work there! How do you verify that sharks and/or eels are actually acquiring the eating habit?

Chicken doge : Sharks r like *ehh fine* Eels are like *HECK YA I WANT SOME LIONFISH*

Brady Schwabach : You're also teaching sharks to be comfortable around people.

Noctivagus Silecioso : Kinda like humans ... we are partially immune to Spam and Chicken Nuggets 🤣🤙🏽

Claudio Oliveira : muito bom, parabéns👏👏👏

Michael McSherry : Look at all the dead coral

Timmy the Turtle : Well.....*inhales deeply* THE THUMB NAILL OMG ITS SO PHOTO SHOPPED

Mary Fong : No sharks or eels were hungry after the making of this video.
