ZDG : I was surprised to learn that gizzard shad are a desirable food fish. As an American fisherman, gizzard shad are often ignored or categorized as a "trash fish" which has no food value. Sometimes you can catch them while fishing for American shad, and I think most people keep them for bait or throw them on the bank.
