Luxra : *5 years ago?!*

Arlo : Seven years is a perfectly reasonable amount of time on paper (especially considering generations used to last only five) but I feel like I'd be happy with my PS4 for another five years at least. Graphics are already so good that any better will just make them that much more expensive to develop. I feel less and less of a drive to get an upgrade as time goes on.

Simte : That's what I opted to play (mainly) on PC, as I don't have to worry about hardware changes. Still, I think that as long as you can keep being passionate about gaming, any platform is good.

The Great Hadoken : PlayStation hardware to wind down in 2021 in preparation for PlayStation streaming services. I will not be partaking in such a service.

Evaquiel : i'm more then fine with the PS4, it still feels new to me, but for the next gen, it GOTTA have 2 things: backwards compatibility and make 60fps the standard. No more excuses. Graphics can't impress me anymore, we have enough of that. And i don't wanna have to keep older consoles just to play those classics just because they want to sell remasters instead of new games.

Cuppa Tea : It honestly feels like 2 or 3 years since ps4 came out.

MrThunderwing : I think game's have peaked visually this generation. I don't want to have to buy a whole new system for what is going to be a visual upgrade that is probably not going to be all that noticeable to me. When I was a lad, the whole point of upgrading to a next gen console was all about how amazing the games looked compared to the previous gen. From my Sega Master System, to the Megadrive to the Saturn and PS1 and then the Dreamcast, PS2 and Xbox up until the PS3 - each successive generation really felt like a massive leap forward graphically. And then the PS4 came out and I honestly don't think it looked that much better than the PS3. There are PS3 games that I think still look absolutely stunning, like all of the Bioshock series, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Wipeout HD Fury, Outrun Online Arcade and After Burner Climax to name but a few. I would've been perfectly happy carrying on playing games that looked like that. The only reason I ended up getting a PS4 late last year was because I saw a secondhand one going for cheap and there were a (very) small handful of games I was keen to try out on it. I've still kept my PS3 because there are a few games that on it that I still love, that I wouldn't be able to play otherwise. I know this is just how the modern gaming industry works, but it fucks me off intensely that the expectation seems to be now that if I want to be able to carry on playing new games in the future, I have to get a brand new system every 5-6 years, taking up yet more space around my TV, with games which'll probably only look marginally better than the ones I'm playing at the moment. Well, fuck that! There have literally been so few games I've been that bothered about this generation that I think that once the PS4's phased out, I'll be done with current gen gaming. There are plenty of old games I've been meaning to go back and playthrough again on lots of the older systems, more than enough to keep me going for many years I think.

Mightylink : This generation was too short, we didn't even get a new Elder Scrolls yet or a Borderlands, just remasters... I'm really disappointed, I felt like I invested too much into this console when I should of waited for the next console, if this is how every generation is going to go from now on then I'm not going to buy every single console that comes out anymore.

JuJu Da Gamer : And yet still no backwards compatibility 😒

Diocane Maiale : Sometimes I wonder how the hell was 2013 5 years ago

The2808erik : since console manufacturers started charging extra for online gaming, I will stick to PC only.

Adam H. : I don't feel so good -Ps4

Brandon Parks : It feels way too soon :/

Kal El : this gen basically just started 3 yrs ago when actual new gen games dropped.

Ronald Ray Gun : It needs backwards compatibility, people are gonna get tired of having to rebuy games every ~7 years.

MoreImbaThanYou : Sonys reasoning is stupid. A console should be the FOUNDATION on wich they sell products upon, not the main focus. But eh, it's sony after all.

rkraiem100 : This generation has been the single most underwhelming console generation in video game history. On the Xbox side we have a combination of DOA games like sunset overdrive and halo 5, along with online only garbage like sea of thieves that will be worthless once the servers shut down On the PS4 side we've got duds like the order 1886, and knack. At least the ps4 has a good selection of anime games and a few decent single player games With Nintendo while they aren't doing horrible, compared to the GameCube and n64, this generation is garbage And lastly on PC we have all that plus a bunch of decent indie games. What happen to the good old days when games used to actually be ****ing interesting and experimental! When they didn't need to sell 10m units just to break even!!!

tobi pohan : In case you haven't recognize xbox one and xbox one x failure Better machine ≠ better console Ps4 is still great, it doesn't need better machine Hell, even if xbox gonna releases another console in 2020, i bet that it won't even win against playstation 4 sales

Zerodrag : Still a good three years worth of games to come out on PS4. It’s an excellent system by far.

Shrek : Xbox might be done as a brand, to be honest.

The Beast : The Ps5 better be backwards compatible

Ghoulish : This generation had felt very underwhelming. Looks like I'm joining the PC Master race.

James Lawrence : It felt like PS3 was out for like 15 years lol. Why does it feel like PS3 had so many different games and like a couple new games a month. Whereas PS4 seems so dry and a good PS4 game will only release once every couple of months. Also the first year of the PS5 has to be better than the first year of the PS4. I could have easily waited a good year after it was originally released.

SavageRicktator : Not ready switching to PS5 we still got some great exclusives coming up. Waiting for Death Stranding to come out in next few years

M' aiq : I feel like its time for a new PS console but idk because Sony probably won't enable backwards compatibility with older PS 1,2,3 & 4 console games. Lots of old fun games I'm sure many of us would love to play without that crappy PlayStation Now which is just terrible & lazy on Sony's end or just Greedy plain & simple. lol

arisart22 : It feels like ps4 has only been around for 2-3 years. This mainly because great titles are too far apart since development takes 3-5 years nowadays unlike on the era of ps2-ps3 where you could make a great game in 1-2 years of development. That being said, just give us Tlou2, death stranding and ghost of tsukishima for the ps4's last run and I think most of us can move on to next gen. Ps: HzD2, Demon souls remake and FF7 remake as launch title for ps5 would be a dream come true.

TankedThomas : I don't think we really need these console cycles, as such. Does the PS4 really need to be replaced? Okay, it's not the most powerful system on the market, but all this stuff about sales peaking, games not selling as much etc.? I think that's more on companies to make better games. Less micro-transactions and such. I think you'll see less people buying the PS5 and whatever the next Xbox is, generally speaking, because more and more people just don't want to deal with the bullshit in modern video games these days.

Metal Levite Alex : This was barely a decent "generation" of consoles, honestly. Underpowered consoles that just came and went.

TheVanillatech : It's disgusting really. They skimped on hardware but the PS4, for all that it was a joke (as was the XBOX 1, both claiming to be 1080p HD games machines on par with modern PC's on release, and falling infinitely short) it actually allows decent gaming. So SONY release a PS4 PRO, just a few years after PS4, which is an even bigger joke offering a fraction faster hardware but STILL falling far behind not only 1080p 60fps, but falsely advertising upscalled 2k as "4K MODE" and not hitting 30fps in THOSE titles. PS kids still shelling out, AGAIN, for an underpowered machine, not even close to the XBOX 1 X which is actually a decent console in terms of power. NOW Sony are finally gonna make a true HD 60fps console, some 5 years later, after parents already shelled out TWICE for playstations for little johnny. What a fucking joke the industry is now. And people still shovel money at them.

Lixi : These console generations are too long, imo. By the time the console comes out they are already out of date, in terms of technology.

bluemenace04 : Welp, that sucks. I just got ps4 this year. Oh well, guess I'm waiting a few years when ps5 comes out, I'll wait until all the bugs are worked out.

Adam Poole : i have no plans on getting a ps5 at launch.. my ps3 as well as my ps4 with it's excellent games (and plenty more on it's way)... i wish they'd make a playstation that you just get an easy to install upgrade package rather then a new console every 10 years

MiREK : Well, this is it. **in AVGN voice** Get ready for the Ataribox and Dreamcast 2!

SAW : I don't need a PS5 for a long time. The graphics of the current gen consoles are awesome. But it sacrificed the "fun factor" in some videogames for DLC, season passes and lootcrates. PS4 will be the last console i bought, because good is good right? It's a waste to pay $600 for a few beta updates, and some minor improved graphics wich you can't see (only a computer can see the difference).

RAsplez 98 : Seriously? The PS4 is still one of the best consoles available and the technology is still on par with what developers can manage. They tried this shit with the PlayStation 4 Pro, which screwed over everyone who bought a standard PS4 for Christmas just before it was announced (like me). Introducing another console with the exact same technology to make you feel the FOMO (Fear of missing out), is a scummy business practice in my opinion. What will the PS5 offer that the PS4 can't? An upgrade from the PS3 to PS4 was understandable due to graphical and technical limitations. I remember wanting call of duty ghosts for the PS3 (don't judge, it was like tradition. But I'm not buying black ops 4) but hearing about the collosal downgrade, definitely gave people a 'FOMO'. I compared MGSV on my PS3 to the PS4 and the difference was well noticeable, and well worth the upgrade. But a new console when the current one still manages to keep up with technology? That's too soon. I'd expect another console by at least 2021 or 2022, but 2018 is WAAAAAY too soon considering how well it holds up nearly 5-6 years after its release. The PlayStation pro was a solution to bridge the gap between 2013 and 2020 technological advances, so why we need another console on top of that is beyond me.

OVERLOAD24 : Even though sales have peaked, it’s still super successful. I mean it’s sales rate has passed the PS2 which is no easy task. I think PS4 will have Death Stranding, Cyberpunk, Days Gone, Last of Us 2, maybe Final Fantasy 7?!?! Then maybe 2020, 2021 I can see PS5 coming around

Ivanosque Van schaick : *FUCK* (ノಠ ∩ಠ)ノ

Hakeem Shabazz : Bring some of the damn ps2 and ps3 games to ps4. Like, champions of norrath, fight night or ANY boxing game, syphon filter, MAG, elderscrolls oblivion and virtual fighter!!!😉😍😍😍

Smoking Cherry Productions : Switch to PC and you won't have to buy a new console every 2 years.

Xbob42 : Yong, you idealist you. Increasing the CPU's strength isn't going to get up 60 FPS on consoles. Whatever extra power is given will always be used for the maximum amount of bells and whistles to sell via screenshots and trailers. The days of 60 FPS being a target on consoles are over, aside from a very small number of exceptions. Even Ratchet and Clank gave up on it, and that series thrived at 60.

It’sJustJake : 2020 for sure. I’m gonna predict that the PS5 will feature 1080p 60fps MINIMUM. 4K MAXIMUM. It might just have VR built in just because. 1TB harddrive MINIMUM. Faster CPU GPU hardware. It’ll probably cost $500.

remo what : Wow, already time for a system upgrade? Don't know whether to be let down or happy about this. I haven't picked up either an XboxOne or PS4 since both systems don't really have any impressive games this generation. A few stood out like God of War and Dragon Ball FighterZ, still interested in Shenmue, but I don't think that's going to actually change my mind about a console. I suppose this is all in the planning stages right now.

Gattsu Berserk : If they want to win the next generation, do two things: keep up great exclsuives and *make it entirely backwards compatible through all PS generations* I am so slow and recluctant to buy new stuff but I would buy it at launch if it was 100% backwards compatible. Oh, and make the games of all generations available for purchase at a decent price, not this streaming only bullshit.

Basic055 : The PS4 pro was a mistake

Big Boss : I just bought my PS4 in Black Friday now there’s a PS5 coming in less than four years. I feel like I bought it for no reason. It better have backwards compatibility from PS2 to PS4 games.

Zorn Media Group : you won't be getting 3840x2160p regardless of optimizations until ps5 pro or ps6 days. The system is suppose to be navi, at best it's going to be a cheap 1080 + zen+/zen2 in limited APU space and limiting form factor, hoping for legit 4k60 w/ no upscaling or general tricks won't happen without substantially powerful hardware if we're talking about graphically high end triple A titles.

alikh idzam : I'm still keeping my PS4

El16100 : Who else got there PS3

Rc3651 : Been a pretty lackluster console generation. I had huge libraries during the PS1 and PS2 generation, and I had a lot during the PS3 gen as well. But now I've got...... Bloodborne, Nioh, God of War. Good games but it's been like 5 years and I don't have any PS4 titles I'm looking forward to on the horizon. Hell the Switch only came out recently and I've already got more titles for that! And it's not like I'm missing much on the Xbox side recently either. I used to play on multiple consoles or handhelds but nowadays I can just plunk down in front of my PC and be set for pretty much anything. Where the games at??
